CHRIS WEITZ TALKS BOUT ROB, KRISTEN, AND TAYLOR

“I really want to see how they’re going to figure out the part where the vampire baby chews its way out of Kristen Stewart’s stomach,” said “New Moon” director, Chris Weitz, when we recently asked him what he’s looking forward to seeing in the final “Twilight Saga” movies.

Chris quipped with a smile, “I certainly wouldn’t know how to shoot that. I’m sure Bill Condon is going to figure it out, because he’s a terrific director.”

As for the future of Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner after “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn” Parts 1 (to be released in November this year) and 2 (next year), here’s Chris’ wish for them: “For the three leads, they’re going to need to handle this last tsunami of publicity and distinguish themselves in other films.”

“With Kristen, she has always done terrific independent-film roles, and that’s great,” said Chris, who also directed the memorable “About a Boy,” “The Golden Compass” and, now, the acclaimed “A Better Life.” “Rob is doing that sort of thing, too,” Chris pointed out. “Rob is filming with David Cronenberg (‘Cosmopolis’) now. Taylor is carving a different path in action films.”

“I want to see them succeed,” Chris stressed. “I want to see them retain their essential humanity. I like them very much. What I also wish for them are happy lives that aren’t impinged on too much by the downside of the great things that have happened to them.”

XAVIER SAMUEL MENTIONS BOUT ROB AND KRISTEN

 

It must have been the biggest set you've worked on...
Well, I can't imagine a film that's generated that sort of response. It's funny thinking that regardless of what work I do in the future, I know that I'll never be a part of something that generates that particular type of response - it was really unique. It's a credit to Stephenie Meyer, Robert [Pattinson] and Kristen [Stewart], and the rest of the cast, to capture something that is contagious and exciting and build that world in a way that's compelling. I was really happy to have been a part of it... and just held on tight.

Did you spend much time with Rob and Kristen?
Yeah, it wasn't like a closed shop. Even though that was a fear - well, not a fear, but you're kind of hesitant on any job that you'll into a situation where people have already established their dynamic and their own family. And to be an outsider walking into that - and also playing the bad guy! - you think 'How's this going to go down?' But I couldn't have been welcomed in warmer fashion. We went out to dinners and there was a really organic camaraderie that developed.

PETER FACINELLI TALKS BOUT HOW ROB AND KRISTEN HANDLING FAME

Do your daughters think you're so cool because you work with Robert Pattinson?

My daughters don't usually get impressed by people I've worked with because they're just Dad's friends. I think they're just enamored I'm part of the whole franchise. Rob is just one of Dad's friends.




Are you amazed at what he and Kristen Stewart have to put up with?

I'm very proud of how they've handled it. It's been fun for me to watch them rise to fame the way they have and the way they've handled it. When your life is put under a microscope like that it's very difficult to function and I give them great credit for functioning and living a normal life within the realm of their fame.

REESE TALKS BOUT ROB WITH THE DAILY MAIL "I KNOW HIS GIRLFRIEND REALLY WELL"

Excerpts from Reese's new interview with the Daily Mail

"Their (Jacob and Marlena) romance develops against the odds – ‘Jacob kind of melts her heart,’ says Reese – and Marlena inevitably ends up in bed with him. ‘I’ve got to say it was a little disappointing,’ she laughs. 

‘Rob had quite possibly the most hideous cold of any co-star I’ve ever had to do a love scene with. I was spraying the sanitiser trying not to get sick myself! We had a brother/sister kind of relationship,’she adds.

‘I know his girlfriend (Twilight’s Kristen Stewart) really well, and he’s met my husband.’ (Reese married Hollywood agent Jim Toth in March.) It wasn’t the first time the pair had worked together, if you count Robert’s fleeting turn as Reese’s son in Vanity Fair. ‘I was 27 and he was 17,’ she smiles. 

‘We didn’t really know each other very well.’ And the scene ended up on the cutting-room floor.

How times have changed! Obsessed admirers hovered around the Water for Elephants set in Piru, the small Californian town where much of the filming took place. 

‘There were really young girls out until 4am, sitting on the roofs of cars holding signs (saying they loved him), waiting to see him. Where were their mothers?’ exclaims Reese, who has two children, 11-year-old Ava and seven-year-old Deacon, from her first marriage to actor Ryan Phillippe (of Gosford Park and Crash fame). 

‘It is an incredible phenomenon. Rob and I were at a photo shoot together the other day and the photographers were saying, “Kiss him”, and I said, “Do you think I want to get killed? Women all over the world are going to kill me!” But you know,’ she says, ‘he’s actually as sweet and lovely as he seems on screen.’ I tell her that Robert paid her similar compliments when I met him recently, raving about her looks and personality.
