Happy New Year

Happy New Year, everyone!

I hope you have a great 2010.

Chillin at the Polar Bear Swim

My daughter and I will try to work up our courage to venture into the cold waters of Lake Ontario at the Habitat for Humanity Toronto's 2010 Polar Bear Swim. The dippers will enter the water at 12 noon on the first day of the new year - January 1, 2010, at Sunnyside Park.

Update: Ann of Green Gables joined Erin and I in the dip. We showed up early at Sunnyside Park to check out the location and arrangements for us Polar Bears. There are two parking lots on either side of the park, we chose the east lot and walked to Sunnyside Pavillion - they, of course, had set up on the west side of the building. We took some pictures of the beach and went back to keep warm in the car. Here we are pictured below.

At 11:30am we joined the crowds providing their forms and sponsorship money and we received our blue Toronto Polar Bear Dip bracelets and our Polar Bear Dip blankets and then we shivered in the cold and snow thinking about the upcoming dash into Lake Ontario.

They announced that the amount of swimmers was greater than anticipated and had run out of bracelets and blankets. In place of bracelets they wrote PB on peoples hands to show that the multitude of waivers had been signed and the sponsorship money collected. I think they had less than 100 people last year. The organizers provided time updates and with just less than 5 minutes left we began to strip off our clothes and everyone gathered in the roped off area.

We waited for the countdown and rush into the frigid water in the large crowd estimated at between 150 to 200 swimmers. There was no ice on the lake at this beach so it made the water a little safer (no chunks of icebergs) and probably a little warmer than in previous years.

Finally the countdown began and the mad push into the lake. I kept near the end so I didn't have to go to far out, because by the time you go a short distance they are already starting to come back in. The cold water numbs your body very fast and I can see how hypothermia can be so dangerous.

We braved the cold water to say we had done it, had a great adventure and helped raise money for charity. Media coverage of the event was pretty good and their were a number of interviews before and after the swim. Joe Fresh said he saw Erin and Ann on Global TV news.

After the swim there was quite a group protesting Canada's reaction to climate change and there were a number of people dressed in Polar Bear costumes, so there were some Polar Bears at the Polar Bear Dip!

Burj Dubai in new year

http://www.amitbhawani.com/blog/Images/C/Comparision-Tallest-Towers.pngThe opening of Burj Dubai is expected to attract thousands of visitors, but most managers of restaurants in the surrounding area are refusing to accept reservations.

Restaurants are maintaining their usual policies of no reservations, even though requests are pouring in.

"We can't guarantee reservations since customers will probably not make it on time because of the crowds. We don't want to keep empty tables waiting for them," said Fadi Salloum, restaurant manager at Shakespeare and Co, located across from the world's tallest tower.

"We are not taking any reservations for January 4, especially for the terrace. If I take them, it will be hectic to control them," said Gassan Mezher, branch manager for Scoozi, Dubai Mall.

"We already had too many people asking to reserve but we had to say no," he added.

http://travel.smart-guide.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/Burj-Dubai-Highest-Building-in-the-World1.jpg

Extended hours

The restaurant has 64 seats outdoors and 140 inside, and is planning to add 20 more to accommodate more customers.

"We believe the restaurant will be full on the night and our full staff will be on duty," he said.

The restaurant usually closes at midnight, but it will extend opening hours as long as there is business, Mezher said.

Salloum said: "We are taking reservations until 8pm. After that it's first come first served. Forty people have already booked for January 4. These bookings are not guaranteed because every day is already busy."

If all restaurants opened up their reservations for the opening night of Burj Dubai, they would be fully booked by now.

One restaurant taking advanced bookings is Baker and Spice, a restaurant in Souq Al Bahar that faces the Dubai Fountain and Burj Dubai.

http://i33.tinypic.com/20jiz5x.jpg"We don't usually take reservations at the restaurant, but we are making an exception for the night of the Burj Dubai opening," said Deejay Delon, restaurant supervisor.

However, customers will have to pay a cover charge for the privilege.

To accommodate the extra customers expected on the night, the restaurant will add almost 30 seats on its terrace.

"Most of our seats outside are already booked, so we're adding more," he said.

At Dean and Deluca, a cafe facing Burj Dubai, business is on a first come first served basis. "If we were a restaurant and offered a full meal, we might take reservations," said Sinu Joy, manager of the cafe.

Although the night of the opening will bring crowds to the eating establishments, business is expected to increase as offices open in the tower, and business during lunch hour is also likely to increase.

http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2007/07/21/dubaitower_narrowweb__300x509,0.jpg"The fountain has given us a lot of clientele. The Burj will give even more," Joy said.

Wafi Gourmet, another restaurant that offers outdoor seating with a view of Burj Dubai, will not be taking any reservations. "Usually, there are no reservations. The outdoor seating is busy everyday, especially because of the weather," said Esmail Naba'a, manager of the restaurant branch at Dubai Mall.

full body scanners in aircraft.

scanerThe Netherlands has announced it will bring out full body scanners in an attempt to stop any more explosives getting onto aircraft.

As an aftermath of the attempted Christmas Day airline bombing, the Netherlands government has insisted the scanners be used on all flights heading to the United States.

Dutch Interior Minister Guusje Ter Horst has told a news conference that privacy concerns will no longer be an issue, with the Obama administration now agreeing that all possible measures should be used on flights to the U.S.

In referring to Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, who boarded Northwest Airlines Flight 253 to Detroit from Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport on Friday carrying undetected explosives, Ter Horst said: "It is not exaggerating to say the world has escaped a disaster."

While Amsterdam's Schiphol airport has body scanners in storage, neither the European Union nor the US had approved the routine use of the scanners at European airports.

A key European legislator urged the European Union to begin rapidly installing the new equipment across the 27-nation bloc.

Millivision's scanner marks hidden objects in red on a video image (right); other systems outline a person's body (left).Body scanners peer underneath clothing and are regarded as an electronic strip search by civil liberties groups, some suggesting that to pass children through the scanners would violate international pornography laws.

Since you're all missing out on the fabulousness that is me on Twitter, I thought I'd bring some samples of my awesomeness to you here, where you also never read. Merry Christmas to you! Now you can't say I never gave you anything.

no man can make you feel inferior without first dropping his pants and showing you that he has a bigger penis.

I've been thinking about organizing a Twitter Tea Party. Not for political reasons. I just like tea and I don't want to drink alone.

We could all use a little phone porn. Try saying that 10 times fast - "phone porn phone porn phone porn ..."

Why is it that all the drunk driving commercials only show white males as drunk drivers? Is it OK for women and black people to drive drunk?

Why do people keep giving me such odd looks when I tell them what I want for Christmas? What man doesn't want a blow job? It's perfect!

Why do feminists never encourage men to hire more hookers, thus transfering all of our wealth to women one poke at a time? Its so logical!

Tiger Woods movie on his scandal !

http://www.makli.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/tiger-woods2.jpgThe Tiger Woods infidelity story may be turned into a TV movie and Oscar-winning actor Cuba Gooding Jr. is reportedly lined up to play the troubled celebrity golfer, according to reports.

Gooding Jr, 41, is reportedly being eyed for the high-profile role by several Hollywood producers, who are vying to be the first to make a film about the sensational revelations in the New Year, reports dailyexpress.co.uk.

As soon as the Woods story made headlines, the battle has been on to dramatise the scandal for the screen.

'It makes a great movie because people love the drama of seeing someone really successful fall from the top and then -scramble to pick up the pieces of their life. It proves that even the world's greatest athlete is human just like the rest of us but the movie needs to be made before the public loses interest in Tiger so the race is now on,' a leading Hollywood producer told dailyexpress.co.uk on condition of anonymity.

Woods, 34, shocked everyone when reports about his alleged affairs with 14 women came out following his accident Nov 27 where he crashed his car into a fire hydrant and a tree outside his Florida mansion. It was also reported that he had been attacked by his Swedish wife, 31-year-old former model Elin -Nordegren, prior to the crash.

Woods, who released a statement admitting 'infidelity' earlier this month, could face an expensive divorce which could see his wife of five years walk away with more than 169 million pounds -- almost half his empire.

After various women came forward with accusations about Woods, who last year earned an estimated 69 million pounds from winnings and endorsements, he now faces a probe by US taxman over reports of cash payments to his mistresses.

http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2005/04/11/rigerkiss_wideweb__430x293,1.jpgHe could also be investigated over his alleged links to high-class call girls and money paid for sex.

A fire broke out Indian nuclear lab

A fire broke out in a chemical laboratory at India's main nuclear research facility Tuesday, killing at least two people, an official said.

The fire was extinguished within 45 minutes at the Bhabha Atomic Research Center on the outskirts of Mumbai, India's financial and entertainment capital, the center's spokesman, S.K. Malhotra, said in a statement.

"It may be noted that no nuclear reactor, radioactivity or radiation is involved in the accident," Malhotra said.

Police were investigating the cause of the fire, he said.

Firefighters found two bodies charred beyond recognition in a third-floor room of the modular laboratory, he said.

The Bhabha center has a number of nuclear reactors and the research involves both nuclear weapons and nuclear power. It was set up in 1954 and named after a top Indian scientist, Homi J. Bhabha.

The fire occurred on a day Japan's new prime minister offered to consider selling nuclear power technology to India despite differences over signing a test ban treaty.

Energy-starved India is interested in wooing Japan's thriving nuclear power industry, but Tokyo has so far not allowed Japanese companies to do business in nuclear reactors and fuels until New Delhi agrees to stop conducting nuclear tests.

In New Delhi, Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama told reporters that his government would examine the matter following assurances by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that India would not divert any imports from Japan for weapons purposes or to third countries.

"The two prime ministers shared the view that nuclear energy can play an important role as a safe, sustainable and nonpolluting source of energy in meeting the rising global energy demands," said a joint statement.

http://www.black-and-right.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/black-hole.gifIndia has so far rejected calls for it to sign the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty, but a U.S. nuclear accord with India last year reversed more than three decades of U.S. policy barring the sale of nuclear fuel and technology to India since its first atomic test in 1974.

Singh stressed that India has unilaterally declared a moratorium on nuclear testing. Its last test was in 1998.

India currently has 17 civilian nuclear reactors. It gets just 3 percent of its energy from nuclear power. It plans to increase its nuclear capacity to 63,000 megawatts by 2030 from 4,120 megawatts today.

Hollywood invest in Bollywood

West Hollywood, CA: dusty enjoying hollywood and his favorite star!Hollywood studios seem hell bent on carving a niche in India. Despite collaborations like 'Saawariya', 'Chandni Chowk To China' and 'Roadside Romeo' biting the dust at the box office, US-based production houses are willing to invest in Bollywood projects because it will help them find a firm foothold here.

'We've recognised that the Hollywood studios are very small in the Indian market. We are less than 10 percent in this market place,' Michael Ellis, president and managing director of Motion Pictures Association (Asia-Pacific), told IANS in an interview here.

Motion Pictures Association serves as the voice and advocate of the American motion picture, home video and television industries.

http://blog.elanasztokman.com/wp-content/will-smith.jpg'We're encouraging all our studios to invest in India with co-productions with films or TV deals and it is exciting because then we'll be making products for the Indian market; we will try to participate at that level,' he added.

It was Columbia TriStar Motion Pictures that started the trend by co-producing 'Saawariya' with Sanjay Leela Bhansali Films. Warner Bros took it forward by co-producing 'Chandni Chowk To China' with Rohan Sippy and buying distribution rights for 'Saas Bahu Aur Sensex'.

Joining the league was Walt Disney Co. that inked a joint venture with Yash Raj Films for animation film 'Roadside Romeo'.

http://www.beautyanalysis.com/images/pg42RF---Tom-Cruise-%5BB%5D-.jpgBut none of the joint ventures made money. Ellis, however, says this is just teething problem and that Hollywood studios will have to continue collaborating with filmmakers here to tap the Indian market.

'We can't always win. This is a tough business. This is learning. You don't get it right on day one. Many films in America don't succeed. But the films that some of the studios have made have certainly raised the awareness that we're doing films here.

'The Indian film products clearly dominate and they (Bollywood filmmakers) understand this market far better than we can,' said Ellis.

Highlighting the nature of such investments, he added: 'Our studios are investing more into local films coming in the next year. They've (the studios) all got a whole slate.

http://blogs.babycenter.com/celebrities/files/2008/07/kim-kardashian-0720.jpg'It's not just going to be one film that they have. It's going to be a series of films over next year and they've already got the scripts up and running. They are identifying the producers and will make those films in the traditional Indian way,' he said.

Does that mean Hindi content from the foreign stable?

'Everybody is looking at different products mix but, yes, you'll be seeing more Hindi-type movies,' he said.

One such project is Karan Johar's upcoming 'My Name Is Khan', which has been acquired by Fox Star for reportedly $20 million. The studio has also signed a two-film deal each with Vipul Shah and A.R. Murugadoss.

Hollywood screenplay writer-director Paul Schrader will also make a film titled 'Xtrme City', about the Mumbai mafia and slums, in collaboration with Bollywood director Anubhav Sinha and writer Mushtaq Sheikh.

'The studios are committed. They've got funding lined up, got great projects on line, great scripts and they're also identifying the right producers (here) to make that film. There's a terrific market here that could be explored.

http://www.whatson.uk.com/home/cswfkcyv/www/content_image/image/image/news%20july/george-clooney.jpg'With Hollywood funding or adaptation of scripts and with some production techniques, we have to recognise that there is also a way to do Indian films here. We have to learn that as well,' he added.

Ellis, who was here to launch piracy reports released by the Motion Picture Distributors Association (MPDA), is 'optimistic' about the cross-industry trend.

'The overall co-production and the cross-pollination is good for our industry in America, the Indian film industry and other film industries in other countries too,' he said.

New Years in Toronto - Blue Moon

No, it doesn't mean flashing your ass in the cold, cold weather of Canada. Instead it signifies a month with two full moons. On the 31st of December, as this year and decade make way for another, there will be some party wolves howling at the full moon, much like that three wolves moon tee shirt.

In Toronto the CN Tower will have a special light show for the New Years Eve countdown and at Nathan Phillips Square there will be the CityTV New Years Eve Bash 2010 beginning at 9pm.

The event at City Hall will be hosted by Gord Martineau, Tracy Moore, Kevin Frankish and Dina Pugliese with a number of musical guests including "performances by Anjulie, Jarvis Church, Kardinal Offishall, Karl Wolf, The Mission District and the cast of Rock of Ages." (UPDATE: my previous list was so last year - thanks for the tip).

Getting home safely from the New Years Eve celebration can happen with the free TTC service which runs from midnite to 4am courtesy of the Toronto Entertainment Alliance.

The next day you can drop by City Hall and meet His Honour David Miller at the Mayor's New Years Day Levee from 11am to 12:30pm.

He decides to change himself. & Knocks on door of forgiveness

Ex-es!! They bring nothing but troubles, queries and infinity of contemplations to us. Vice versa. I certainly and upholding my principle that all humans make mistakes in spite of the different genders. In a relationship, whatever rationale u mentioned to your exes, it doesnt effing enter their thick skulls. No. You don't even ruddy know if they were listening. Mine just admited he wasn't listening haven't been listening to what I have had to say for my part during the entire motherfucking 2 years of relationship. Oh no. And he has the balls to come back to me and tell me to give him a second chance. After all the goddamn pain and torment I was put through. Never thought of it.WHY NOW? WHY the action if u are to regret later?

I'd reckon, from my observations, the Ex-es took for granted for the fact that we "loved" them too much to actually retaliate and thus, we take in whatever SHIT they had installed for us.

*WRONG

We will. And we surely do retaliate. It was merely a matter of time. We didn't want to complicated things as it is already insane enough. This, we call, "The smart ones" in a relationship.  The "mature ones".

Now, know what do I hate most bout after-break-up-confrontations? Its the guilt in the ones who called it off. Somehow or rather, the ones with most conscience, they'll feel so fucking awful. They actually think twice on starting anew with the Ex-es. Well, I certainly most Did NOT think of making a U-turn there. but it did make me consider. There my friend, is Sir Doubt waiting to pounce on u like a hungry tiger that hasnt been eaten for a couple of days and it sees this deer alone in the field. Waiting for u to make the slightest change in mind and go back to Mr. Ex. In which, history starts to repeat itself. ONCE AGAIN.

Conclusion,

I have a great boyfriend now. I wouldn't screw this relationship for anything. No no no. This boy means alot to me. And u, my ex. Please, don't come by telling me u want me to give u another chance aka. Lemme ruin your life again. Its unfair to judge like that. but so-oh-rry. That was my final decision. and regardless how shitty I am goonna feel.Or How extraordinaire the change u've made upon yourself. Its a big Phat NO.

FYI, the better changes in you, it helps u more than me in your future. So eat on that thought Ex.

10 Ways to Create a More Hopeful 2010 (and Most of Them are Free)

PHOENIX, Dec. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- 2009 was not an easy year. Here are a few ideas to help make 2010 a better year for you, your friends and family, and perhaps even the world.

(Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20091228/LA30365)

1. Let Someone Know You Care

E-mails and text messages are no match for a heartfelt, handwritten message. Mail a REAL card or note to someone, right now. And if you don't know someone who needs a lift, then simply write the word HOPE on the back of anything you mail.

www.HopeIsInTheCards.org

2. Shop Local

Pick three local businesses. Spend $50 with these neighborhood enterprises instead of a national chain. You don't add anything to your budget, and you help keep small businesses going.

3. Read To A Child

You feel great, the child feels great, you promote learning and education and it's just plain fun to do.

4. Play With A Puppy (or a kitten)

A visit to your local animal shelter or pet store is all it takes. If you know your zip code, go online and find a fuzzy friend nearby.

5. Get Inspired

Loren Gelberg-Goff's internet radio show, Loving The Life You're In, serves up a weekly dose of positive, upbeat tips and conversations with some of the world's most interesting guests and experts.

6. Thank A Soldier

These people put their lives out there to serve our country. Let them know you'll be happy when they're home again.

www.amillionthanks.org

7. Give Something Back

Ditch TV for one hour and serve a meal at a shelter. Drive someone to an appointment. Paint over some graffiti. That hour will be treasured far longer than any sitcom.

www.unitedway.org

8. Turn Everything Off For 5 Minutes

TVs, stereos, iPods, computers, lights, clocks, the heat....everything. The quiet, the thoughtfulness, the lack of buzzing....it does wonders.

9. Go Outside

There is something inspiring outside -- even if it's just a weed in a crack on the sidewalk. Think about it -- with nothing but rain and sunshine and the ickiest bits of dust and dirt, that weed broke through concrete! If a little plant can do it, so can you.

10. Spin

In your office chair. In the elevator when no one else is in there. Outside. Nothing so easy can make you feel so 8 years old again. And when you were 8, anything was possible.

It still is.

Have a happy, hopeful New Year.

Tyra Banks Follows Oprah Winfrey Out of the Box

Oprah Winfrey blazed a trail for women to get their own talk shows -- and now she’s blazed a trail for women to move on from their talk shows.
Want proof? Tyra Banks announced today that she's ending her time on the daytime TV circuit. The Tyra Show will go the way of The Oprah Winfrey Show after it wraps its fifth season this spring.

"I’ve been loving having fun, coming into your living rooms, bedrooms, hair salons for the past five years," Tyra told PEOPLE. "My next huge steps will allow me to reach more women and young girls to help us all feel as fierce as we truly are."

As for what, exactly, those "huge steps" will be, the word is she's setting her sights on Hollywood via her own film production company, Bankable Studios. An "industry insider" told PEOPLE her aim will to be to bring "positive images of women to the big screen."

David Beckham absolutely loves the bulldog.

http://www.mynewhair.info/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/03-victoria-beckham-hairstyle-short-pixie.jpgFormer Spice girl Victoria Beckham has gifted her husband David Beckham a bulldog this Christmas. She has reportedly splurged more than $3,000 on the animal as she feels the breed is a symbol of the football star's spirit on the field.

The 35-year-old bought the bulldog from a local breeder after her husband spoke of England's bulldog spirit in the run-up to next year's World Cup campaign, reported thesun.co.uk.

Victoria gave her present to David as they celebrated Christmas at their British home, Beckingham Palace in Hertfordshire.

The dog will live with Victoria and the couple's children - Brooklyn, 10, Romeo, 7, and four-year-old Cruz in Los Angeles while David is in AC Milan.

'David absolutely loves the bulldog. Posh said she chose the breed because it is a symbol of Becks's spirit on the football field,' said a source.

http://youbeenblinded.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/david-beckham1.jpg'He will be flown out to LA so the boys have something to look after while he's away,' added the source.

David already has two Rottweilers called Snoopy and Puff after his favourite rappers Snoop Dog and P Diddy, formerly known as Puff Daddy.
