Average woman over-packs her holiday bag by 26 items: survey - Indian Express

A survey has found that the average woman over-packs her holiday suitcase by almost double, which means almost half of the contents of her suitcase will remain untouched.

In the survey of 2,000 women by a travel insurance website, 77 per cent admit they like to pack extras of everything in case they cannot decide what to wear when abroad.

The survey also revealed 72 per cent of women always over-pack and a fifth have been faced with additional baggage costs, yet 42 per cent plan to shop for clothes while on their break.

The average female will pack 19 tops for her holiday but will wear only ten, and will take 16 'bottoms', such as trousers, shorts and leggings, but will wear eight.

A further five accessories such as hats, sarongs, pashminas and sunglasses will return unused, after women pack a total of nine.

In addition to the clothes, women also fill their cases with suntan lotion (73 per cent), make-up (53 per cent), and electrical gadgets such as hair dryers (43 per cent) and straighteners (41 per cent).

Even hand luggage causes problems for women as they struggle to fit everything into their bags.

The average female’s holiday handbag has to fit everything from books for the beach, phones, Mp3 players, digital cameras, sun tan lotion, and sunglasses.

“Women are notoriously bad for making decisions on what to wear day to day, let alone for a seven-day break,” the Daily Mail quoted Jeremy Cryer, head of travel at Gocompare.com, as saying.
