Topping the list is "O Fortuna," the Carl Orff composition from the oratorio Carmina Burana.

The piece, which recently featured on UK talent show The X Factor, topped a list of the most played classical music of the past 75 years. The stirring composition has been featured in commercials, Michael Jackson tours and as a football warm-up piece.

The BBC Radio 2 program, The People's Classical Chart, placed Vaughan Williams's "Fantasia On A Theme" in second place.

Third place went to a 1990 recording of Rimsky-Korsakov's "Scheherazade" by the London Symphony Orchestra and conductor Sir Charles Mackerras.
